Moving Beyond Theoretical Models to Physical Certainty

Advanced Sub-Surface Inspection: The Technology Inside

Time-of-Flight Diffraction (TOFD): A computerized data aquisition system that records variations in the transit time of diffracted waves. TOFD is highly efficient at detecting vertical defecs, such as "lack of fusion" where the welded joints aren´t perfectly bonded.

Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT): Utilizing a pulse-echo methodology, this probe system measures transit time and sound attenuation to accurately determine the exact presence, depth and dimensions of internal material flaws.

KRATOS vs. Traditional Inspection Methods

Traditional UT inspection methods rely heavily on rope access technicians or complex scaffolding and platforms. These methods are a burden on operational metrics, requiring extensive mobilization windows, large field crews, and prolonged periods of turbine standstill.

Drastic Reduction in Downtime: KRATOS moves rapidly and performs continuous scanning along the weld paths. Furthermore, set up requires a fraction of the time and effort typically dedicated to other methods. These two features alone drastically reduce the revenue-loss window associated with taking a turbine offline.
